The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family go about their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well help usher in that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
