Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
